If I was any happier right now, my heart might just burst. It feels like it was just yesterday that we were headed to the airport for our biggest adventure yet…. OUR WEDDING! It all started bright and early on January 4th, 2017. Like I mean really early. My parents had been staying at our house for a few days prior to the trip to help finalize the last of the wedding plans (they live in Michigan). We had planned to get up at 3am to pack up the car and head to the airport but as soon as 2am rolled around, my parent were up… why you ask? Because Mom’s phone was still set on Eastern Time rather than Central (thanks Mom haha).
It was absolutely freezing out on our travel day and let me tell you, going from 5 degrees to 80 degrees in one outfit isn’t easy ha!
^Back at the spot we got engaged (MKE Airport)!
We had about 20 wedding guests with us on our outbound flight to Cancun which made traveling so much more fun! One of our first obstacles (which is funny now but wasn’t at the time) was checking in and finding out Jaime’s dads flight was booked as an infant! Yes, you read that right, an infant. Meaning he had no seat (big thanks to our travel agent). After that fiasco, everything was smooth sailing… until we got to customs in Cancun. Now this is when things get even funnier. The line at customs was short so we all got through the line pretty quickly, except for one person. Jaime’s dad again (he didn’t have the best traveling experience haha). Apparently he has the same name as a drug dealer they were looking for and the dealer apparently has a legal U.S. passport so they thought it might be him. They pulled him into a back room and questioned him for about 20 minutes (thank goodness he speaks fluent Spanish) before they determined they have different birthdays and they have the wrong guy. Seriously guys, I can’t make this stuff up haha. We all clapped as he was finally released.
My Mom reached out to most of the group going on the trip and asked them to send us travel pictures! We had guests fly in from 9 different states so this was a really awesome idea. She redeemed herself for the 2am wakeup call!
I’m forever convinced that destination weddings are the way to go. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity to be able to travel to Mexico with 75 of our friends and family. I’ve heard that’s a lot of people for a destination wedding (I mean every single time I told someone our guest count they were in disbelief haha), and Jaime and I are so thankful to be surrounded by such amazing people.
At this time, I don’t know how many posts I am actually going to write about Mexico. But I can tell you, it’s going to be a lot haha. Our wedding trip was the best week of our lives.
love, nicole b
