When I dreamed about what my wedding day would look like, I never pictured a proposal. But, when the opportunity presented itself, we felt we couldn’t pass it up. I have personally never been a fan of the traditional bouquet/garter toss during the reception, I wanted something different. I had seen a few videos online about a bouquet toss proposal and thought that would be the cutest thing ever. My friend Marissa and her boyfriend Josh had been talking about getting engaged soon so I thought, hey why not ask. Josh jumped right on board and it was officially happening… and Marissa had NO idea 🙂
We were in Mexico for 3 full days prior to the wedding and I kid you not, Marissa brought up how she was “not going to get engaged till she was 80” SO MANY TIMES. It was actually hilarious. Now just a little insight on Marissa… we met during our first year in design school and we were instantly friends! She is just a genuinely nice person! She is also one of the most gullible people I know haha. Surprising her was actually easy, she didn’t suspect a thing the whole time! One of the best parts is, she actually told Josh before they left that under no circumstances is he allowed to propose in Mexico, because it was Jaime and I’s wedding trip and she didn’t want to take that away from us. Little did she know we had been planning this for months so Josh just had to play along.
Jaime and I kicked the reception off with our first dance, followed by the father/daughter dance and the mother/son dance. It was then time for the bouquet toss. We started playing Marissa and Josh’s song (at this point she still had no idea even though their song was playing) and since my bridal party was in on the surprise, they made sure that Marissa was front and center!
Side note: it couldn’t have been more perfect because she had her hair, nails, and makeup all done for the wedding and we also had our photographer in on the surprise so she could capture the moment…. I mean what more could you ask for!
I then pretended to throw the bouquet and just turned around and handed it to Marissa. She was SO confused and actually told me “Nicole you’re doing this wrong” HA. It finally clicked when she saw Josh down on one knee. Everything went so perfectly and Jaime and I couldn’t be happier for the two of them. Let the wedding planning begin!
love, nicole b
