Hi Friends! I’m so excited to share my top 5 tips on helping your baby sleep! For the first few months we didn’t utilize these tips and it wasn’t’ until we started that she began sleeping through the night!
1. Schedule, Schedule, Schedule
You guys! This one is so important. We started using a schedule with Marina around 6 months and it changed her sleep in less than 2 weeks! We created our schedule based on what would work for our family. Establish what time would be best for them to wake up and start from there! Let me know in the comments if you would be interested in a more detailed post on what our schedule is and how I created it!
2. Limit the Length of Naps
It’s simple, if your baby is sleeping for too long during the day, they won’t sleep through the night. Try to stick to a strict nap schedule during the day and wake your baby if they sleep past the allotted time.
3. Sleep Sack
Use a sleep sack for every nap as well as bedtime. Your baby will begin to realize that when they are in their sleep sack, it means its time to sleep! It also keeps them warm. For those of you who live in Wisconsin like me, we need all the warm we can get ha. Sneaking in an additional tip here, but it is recommended that your baby’s room is between 68-72 degrees and this is so important for their sleep!
We use a thicker one in the winter months and a thin one in the warmer months!
This one is our favorite! We have also tried this one and loved it, but once your baby is mobile, we found that it slips off of her and we have to go back in her room to put it back on which isn’t convenient when they’re trying to sleep.
4. Sound Machine
I can’t recommend a sound machine more!! I love love love this one. Here are a few reasons why we love this exact sound machine!
- It can be controlled from the device itself or from an app on your phone!
- It has multiple sound options (We use the white noise one) and multiple color options (We keep the color off of ours so her room stays dark at night but she really loves changing it to different colors when she wakes up)!
Having white noise is so crucial for baby’s sleep. Variations in noise can wake a baby up very easily so having the consistent white noise helps to soothe them. We use ours to wake Marina up too. If she is napping or sleeping past her wake up time, we just shut off her sound machine and she wakes up immediately! That is when I really realized how much the white noise is helping her. Also, make sure you are keeping it loud enough!
5. Black Out Curtains
You want to keep their room as dark as possible for both naps and bed time! I found that even the smallest of lights from things like the humidifier, wipe warmer, or baby monitor distract a baby so make sure to cover those items as well!
We love these ones!
I hope these tips help you as much as they’ve helped me! Let me know if you try them!
